BAC Friends Celebrates 12 Years!

BAC Friends Celebrates 12 Years!

This year marks the 12th year of BAC Friends, our after-school program designed to enhance social interaction and communication between children with autism and their typically developing peers. Each week student volunteers are paired with BAC students and participate in games, sports, baking, and other play activities in a fun, engaging, and inspiring setting.

Children with autism learn through observation, practice and modeling the behavior of their peers. As children with autism observe and interact, the peer models are providing a model of age-appropriate skills in social, behavior, play, speech, language and motor skills.

Peers who interact with children with autism better understand the complex challenges they experience. They learn compassion, tolerance, empathy and to accept/celebrate difference and similarities in others.

Thank you to all the peers who participate in this program each year -- you are awesome!
