Consultation
Along with the center-based 1:1 teaching program offered at the Brooklyn Autism Center, we also offer home-based consultation, program reviews and school observations/consultations.

Home-based Consultation
This service is available to all families with children 1-16 years old and includes:
- Ongoing curriculum development and assessment of progress for each learner.
- On-site/in-home consultation to assess and train families and therapists to implement effective teaching procedures.
- Video review of therapy with written feedback.
- Behavioral observation of learners at home, school and community.
- Training in implementation of various data collection methods.
- Analysis of data collected by the learner’s team in order to assess rate of acquisition (how fast the learner is acquiring skills) and to make appropriate data based decisions regarding curriculum changes.
- Development of transition plans for learners to enter less restrictive teaching environments.
- Development of strategies to teach siblings to effectively engage with their brother or sister with autism.
- Guidance in the development of strategies to reduce interfering and problem behavior and to teach appropriate and functionally equivalent behaviors.
- Referrals to the appropriate professionals for additional services.
Program Reviews
A program review is an infrequent (typically quarterly) on-site/in-home review of a home-based program that is supervised by another agency or private consultant. The purpose is to have an objective assessment of the program being implemented as well as a review of any behavior intervention plans and procedures that are currently in place. A program review may also “jumpstart” a program that may be moving slowly and provide additional or different effective teaching strategies to potentially increase how fast an individual learner acquires and generalizes new skills.
- Following the program review, a thorough and detailed written report of recommendations is forwarded to the client.
School Observation/Consultations
For learners who are attending school, there may be a need for effective behavioral strategies to reduce interfering behaviors, increase on-task and appropriate behaviors, increase social behaviors and increase independence. School observations/consultation are not for the purpose of evaluating a classroom or the staff in the classroom. The focus of these observations is to observe an individual learner and then to make recommendations to facilitate that learner acquiring the adaptive behaviors crucial to success in the classroom.
- Following the school observation/consultation, a thorough and detailed written report of recommendations is forwarded to the client.
